What’s your morning practice?
I’ve felt scattered and unfocused for what seems like forever. I listened to a podcast recently that asked, “What’s your morning practice?” I thought for a minute and couldn’t answer. Well, I get up and am immediately immersed in “cat time” –feeding them, litter box duty, sweeping up cat litter in my bathroom where “the kitten” sleeps. Then, they want to play—and so I cave and end up in the backyard with a switch or something to entertain Lilly while Henry races here and there. FINALLY, I make it to the shower or out on my walk or to my keyboard. Oh, yeah, I’m a writer. I have a book to finish. Right.
I hit “REFRESH” and said: THIS IS MY MORNING ROUTINE. I get up when Henry makes his first peep in the bathroom. I don’t close the door or put a pillow over my head to drown out his cries—I GET UP. And, I get OUT of my PJs. I don’t put on my robe because that just makes me feel lazy. I get dressed IN MY WALKING CLOTHES. I feed Henry, I make the coffee, I have one cup and I’m out the door.
This morning, on my walk, I had a short and delightful detour. I stopped at a little neighborhood “lending library,” and stood there and read Dr. Seuss’s: Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are aloud. I smiled and giggled and my mood lifted.

Upon my return, THEN, I allow myself a little backyard playtime with Lilly and Henry. And from there, there needs to be: WRITING, JOURNALING, (more coffee) PROTEIN & WATER, GRATEFULNESS.
I’m still designing the practice, but I’m off to a good start…
DID I EVER TELL YOU HOW LUCKY I AM?!
